As part of The Thomas Alleyne Year 9 Careers Programme we are delighted to offer your son/daughter a free place on the Tesco World of work event on the date indicated. ‘Tesco Product World of Work’ is a new programme offered exclusively to our students. They will have the opportunity to discover the world of food, develop a product with one of their chefs and present it to a panel of food judges. During the event students will cover a wide range of transferable skills such as gaining localised career and labour market information, live course information and apprenticeships.

Travel on the minibus to Tesco Head Office, Welwyn

Welcome and registration - 10:00 am – 10:15 am

Tour of the building- sharing the different types of job roles. Lifecycle of a product – what this is?

10:15 am – 10:45 am

Setting of the brief & the roles – the why behind each idea, what skills will you learn/use

10:45 am - 11:15 am

Practical workshop:

· Shopping in the express store for main ingredients. (I.e. mince, vegetables, cheese for a lasagne)

· Larder

· Develop a meal on a £6 budget

· Skills identified- Managing a budget, working as a team, communication and presentation skills

11:15 am - 12:15 pm

Team to re-group and check they have answered all the relevant questions.

12:15 -12:30 pm

Lunch (free lunch provided to all students by Tesco)

12:30 - 1:00 pm

Presentation of developed products

1:00 - 1:15 pm

Wrap up and close

1:15 pm- 1:20 pm

Travel back to Thomas Alleyne
