attendance reporting procedures for whole school

If your child is too unwell to attend school, please call the main academy telephone number 01438 344344 and press option 2 or email attendance@tas.herts.sch.uk

Please inform the Attendance Officer on each day of absence and send a note of explanation in with your child on their return to the academy.

If your child has had vomiting or diarrhoea, we require them to stay away from school for 24 hours.

The government school attendance target is 95%. If you need support getting your child to school or have a question about attendance please contact Mrs O’Sullivan o’sullivanl@tas.herts.sch.uk.

REQUESTING LEAVE OF ABSENCE DURING TERM TIME

As a parent or carer, you should fill in this form if you need to request a leave of absence to take your child out of the academy during term time.

The conditions under which a leave of absence may be granted are contained in Reg. 8 of The Education (Pupils Registration) Regulations 1995 and Sections 38-42 of School Attendance, Policy and Practice on Categorisation of Absence 2004.

Attendance Reporting Procedures for Year 12 and Year 13 Students

In Sixth Form all students are expected to have 100% attendance and are expected to be in five days per week. Attendance and punctually records are of paramount importance as we prepare our students for the world of work.

All absences should be reported to the Attendance Officer on 01438 344344 (Option 2) by 8.30 am, there is an answering service on this number so you may leave a message. This is so the Attendance Officer may record absences on registers and subject teachers will be aware and may ensure missed work is available on Google Classrooms.

If a student is too ill to call, please ensure a parent is able to call before that time to avoid a further text message to students and parents regarding absence. For Year 12, students’ continuation to Year 13 will be conditional upon them having satisfied all attendance, coursework deadlines and targets as well as making satisfactory progress in all their subjects.

Statistics from the Sutton Trust (an educational charity www.suttontrust.com) confirm there is a direct link between high attendance, punctuality and achievement at A level and we strive to ensure all our students achieve their potential in sixth form and are successful.

We thank you for your continued support with the new procedures.
