Y7 & 8 Trip to Southend on Sea

8th June 2022 Dear Parent’s and Carers,

Re: Year 7 & 8 Trip – July 2022

Following our last communication about the cancellation of our residential trip by The Bushcraft Company, we have been trying to find an alternative residential option or a similar day time activity. We have not been successful due to a lack of availability, however we would like to offer the following option as an alternative.

Day trip to Southend-on-Sea - Wednesday 13th July 2022.

The total cost for this visit will be £27.00 per student, this includes return coach journey and a wristband for Adventure Island, which is a theme park on the seafront.

Students will need a packed lunch or can bring money to purchase food there. Please can you complete the Google form to indicate if you would like your child to attend this trip.

If your child would like to attend we will refund the money paid for the Bushcraft residential, minus £27.00. If your child does not want to attend we will organise a full refund. Please can this form be completed by Friday 10th June 2022.

If we do not receive a response we will assume that you would like a full refund and may offer the place to someone else for the trip to Southend on Sea. Further details regarding the trip will be sent out once all responses have been received. If any parents are able to attend this trip as a parent helper, or have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us on the email below. Yours faithfully, Miss Honeygan-Matthew - Head of Year 7 honeygan-matthewm@tas.herts.sch.uk Ms O’Sullivan - Head of Year 8

Whole School Fun Run (early close)

We are delighted to announce that our Annual Fun Run is back!

After 2 years of virtual fun run we would like to inform you of our 28th Annual Thomas Alleyne

Academy Fun Run will take place on Friday 27th May 2022.

The Fun Run is a fundraising event for the PE department and any funds raised will go

towards improving current facilities or buying new equipment. Fun Run money has paid for

the outdoor table tennis tables, new athletics vests, the bowling machine, trampolines,

refurbishing the weights room and more. It is with this purpose in mind that we are charging

students a £2 entry fee into the race which will cover their non-uniform for the day, as entry

into the best costume competition. Students have also been given sponsorship forms to try

and get friends or relatives to sponsor them in the run. We would appreciate your support in

this very much.

Students are advised to run/ jog in comfortable clothing and as in previous years a number

of students have participated in the fancy dress competition. However, please be advised

that it is essential to wear sensible footwear during the 3 1⁄2 mile run. The route will be

marshalled by staff and sixth form students from the academy. First Aid provision has also

been arranged. A drinks station will be in position on the route where students will be able to

have a cup of water. In addition, students may wish to take their own water, but these drinks

must be in a plastic bottle, not glass or cans.

The day will run as follows:

● Registration at 8.30am

● Period 1 and 2 as normal for all year groups

● Break time will be extended to a 30 minutes

● At 11.30am all students will report to their designated changing areas

● Starting times will be staggered for each year group, beginning at 11.55am

● The Fun Run, finishing at approximately 1pm

● Students will be dismissed from school at 1.30pm.

Could all parents ensure that students are prepared with the necessary sun tan lotion or

waterproofs to combat the ever changing British climate.

Yours faithfully,

Mrs N Hinch

Head of Girls’ Physical Education
