The Academy’s reward system focuses on fostering a safe, emotionally intelligent learning environment by consistently praising positive behaviour, co-operation, and a good attitude. Teaching staff are encouraged to actively share good news with parents through phone calls that always begin with a positive comment. Within the classroom, meaningful and specific praise is delivered both verbally and through written marking feedback, highlighting students’ skills, effort, collaboration, and independent study.
At the core of the tangible rewards are Merit Stamps, which students can earn for various positive actions, such as producing great classwork, handing in home learning on time, helping others, and attending clubs. Collecting 10 merit stamps completes a Merit Card, which counts toward House Points and contributes to half-termly house competitions. Earning five merit cards allows a student to choose a special postcard. These achievements fuel a friendly school-wide competition where the winning House each half-term is rewarded with a non-uniform day or other student-chosen activities.
Beyond standard merits, the system recognises exceptional commitment through Values Postcards and Badges. Accumulating ten postcards in a single core value category earns a student a corresponding Values Badge, while dedicated milestones like collecting all three core badges unlock Bronze, Silver, and Gold bars. Finally, student successes are celebrated publicly throughout the year, ranging from badges and prizes at half-termly House Celebration Assemblies to certificates for subject achievement.Â
Gold Badge Winners
As we look toward the future and the continued growth of our school community, we want to share some exciting updates regarding how we celebrate and display our students’ remarkable achievements.
For many years, our physical honours boards in the school hall have served as a tribute to our Gold Badge winners. However, as our school continues to thrive, we have reached a natural turning point that has prompted us to rethink how we showcase these successes.
Why We Are Changing
We want our students’ achievements to be visible, celebrated, and shared with our entire community. We have identified three key reasons for this transition:
Accessibility:Â Currently, our honours boards are only visible to those who visit the school hall. We want to ensure that parents, extended family, and the wider community can celebrate our students from anywhere.
Space:Â We have officially run out of physical wall space in the hall for new boards!
A New Chapter: We are thrilled to be launching a brand-new Awards System this September, designed to reflect our evolving school values and provide even more opportunities for student recognition.
Celebrating Our Current Gold Badge Winners
We want to ensure that this year’s Gold Badge winners receive the spotlight they deserve. For the remainder of this academic year, we will be transitioning our “Honours Board” to a digital format.
This digital honours roll allows us to share student success in real-time and provides a lasting, shareable record of their hard work.
Looking Ahead
The existing boards will remain on display in school as a historical record of past achievements, but they will no longer be updated. We are currently finalising the details of our new awards program and look forward to sharing more information with you before the start of the September term.
